Custom visitor types within Visitor Aware are designed specifically to make managing distinctly separated types of visitors quick and easy for both viewing and reporting.


Creating and Managing Custom Visitor Types


To create and manage your custom visitor types, start by going to System Management > Settings > Visitor Types and clicking the plus symbol "+".




Once you're on the manage page, simply enter your preferred label and hit the "Save" button.  If you'd like badge printing to be disabled for this visitor type, check the box under "Badge Printing". 

Your new custom visitor type will be shown as a link under the People > Visitors > "Your new visitor type" and will display only visitors assigned to this type.



To delete a custom visitor type, just click on the gear icon to the right of your visitor types and select "Delete this visitor type" (https://app.visitor-aware.com/visitor-types) and confirm the removal.  Visitors associated with the custom visitor type will not be removed, only the visitor type will be removed and unattached from the visitors.


Assigning Visitors to Custom Visitor Types


There are two ways to assign custom visitor type. The easiest way would be to have the visitor complete the process themselves, and then there is a more admin level process that can be done to assign the type as well.


Option 1:


Have the visitor go through the check-in process, and select the newly saved custom visitor type during the check-in process. This type will be assigned to that visitor and no badge will be printed for this person going forward.



Option 2:


From the admin side, it is possible to assign visitor type to a visitor's profile. Login to your app.visitor-aware.com web portal and complete the following steps.


To associate a visitor with one or more custom visitor types, navigate to the visitor's profile (a profile must already exist in the systemand select the "Visitor Settings" tab below the main profile, then check the box for the desired associated visitor type and hit "Save".



Now when selecting that visitor type from the Visitors menu, the assigned visitors will automatically be shown for management and reporting!


Pro tip: Use a "Staff" or "Teachers" visitor type to track hours for faculty by having them check in at a kiosk when arriving for the morning, and check out at the end of their day!
