Use the Bus Driver App
Follow the directions in this workflow to use the Bus Driver app.
Note: You can print this article.
- Mount the device securely in the predefined location where you can see the screen and the device is connected to a power supply.
- Visit https://app.visitor-aware.com/common/applications/bus-manager using the mobile device for the bus route.
Log in using the following credentials:
- Employee ID
- District ID
- Date of Birth (YYYYMMDD).
Note: When adding the app to a mobile device, the bus driver or administrator is prompted to grant location access to use the Bus Manager app. The driver must tap OK.
To begin a route, a bus driver can tap the Select School dropdown menu.
Select the school name from the list.
Tap the Select Direction dropdown menu and select the direction, From School or To School.
Tap the SelectRoute dropdown menu.
Select Ad Hoc for routes that are not predefined, such as field trips, and after school activities.
Note: The Ad Hoc route option displays the student list for the school you selected. Select the appropriate route name from the list.
Tap Start Route to start the route.
The Bus Manager app enters List mode. It defaults to the All students category, above the route name.
To view a list of students who have not checked in, tap Not Checked In.
Unplanned Riders
Bus Manager offers flexibility to accommodate rostered students who check in as riders on a different route, or wish to disembark at a different location, for example to go to another parent’s or student’s home after school.
Note: Unplanned riders appear in the web application on the Students for Route page with a red exclamation mark next to their name. The students checked in for the active route in the Bus Manager mobile app stay in sync with the web application.
Use the Search bar to search for rostered students who are not assigned to a planned route in the school location, including students who are not on the current route, which allows them to ride on unplanned routes.
- Tap the Search bar and type the student’s name.
- Check in the student for the route.
Scan Mode
As students enter or leave the bus, you may need to remind them to scan their ID card, and to be sure the scans are successful.
- A successful scan will show a large green checkmark icon. This indicates that the student has been scanned successfully
- An invalid scan, or student not found will show a large red X icon. This indicates that the student is not rostered to the route, or was not found for the school.
It is possible for a student to attempt to scan the barcode in an ID card over the phone or tablet without registering a check in or check out event and displaying a green checkmark icon. This typically happens if the student has passed the card over the device too quickly.
Once the route has started and the app enters Scan mode, the bus driver generally shouldn’t need to interact with the mobile device.
To enter Scan mode, tap the Scan icon on the top right of the screen.
As students enter the bus, they scan their ID cards.
If a student does not have an ID card, the student taps the No ID Card? bar to check in manually.
The student can enter a Student ID or Transportation ID.
Once you've successfully completed your route, and all the students are off the bus, navigate to the list-view:
- If the application is on the rapid scan screen, tap the clipboard icon on the top-right.
- If the application is already on a list of students, do nothing.
- To complete the route, tap Complete, or tap Cancel .
- To start over, tap Select School.
