Security Settings
This article explains how to manage security settings for visitor check-in within the Visitor Aware platform. These settings control the security checks that occur when visitors use the kiosk app or the portal for check-in.
These configuration settings are located in the Security Settings area of the admin portal. Go to System Settings | Security Settings | General.
From the Manage General Security Settings page you can control the following options:
Enable facial recognition for visitors?
When you enable this option, Visitor Aware uses facial recognition to check visitors in and out once their profile is created with a government-issued identification card. If you disable this option, Visitor Aware does not store visitors' biometric data. Visitors must use a government-issued identification card or a visitor-specific QR code to check in.
- Select Yes to enable facial recognition for visitors
- Select No if you don't want to store biometrics and (visitors will use ID only or a visitor-specific Quick Pass)
Note: For the states of FL, NY, and CO, biometrics must be disabled by law. Please see the article on State Legislative Compliance for facial recognition for more information.
Enable national sex offender search for visitors?
Searches United States national sex offender registries for visitor matches. If the system finds a match, the system immediately alerts staff and the visitor cannot enter until staff explicitly removes the watchlist block.
- Select Yes to enable national sex offender search for visitors
- Select No if you don’t want to enable national sex offender search for visitors
Note: If you enable this option, Visitor Aware automatically screens non-validated visitors who check in against the national sexual offender registry.
National sex offender visitor screening interval:
This interval applies only to the national sex offender screening. It enforces how long before the system re-runs a visitor’s sex offender screening upon check-in.
From the National sex offender visitor screening interval dropdown menu, select 72 hours, One week, Two weeks, One month, Six Months, or One Year.
Note: Visitor Aware immediately screens all new visitors upon their first check-in experience.
Enable watchlist search for visitors?
Searches national and international watch lists for visitor matches. If a match is found, staff are alerted immediately, and visitors are not allowed entry without staff explicitly removing the watchlist block.
- Select Yes to enable watchlist searches for visitors
- Select No if you don't want to enable watchlist searches for visitors
Note: If enabled, non-validated visitors who check in are automatically screened against national and international watchlists.
Store additional identification parameters?
Stores visitors’ date of birth (even if you have disabled sex offender screening and watchlist screening).
- Select Yes to enable storing date of birth
- Select No if you don't want to enable storing date of birth
Allow visitors to request exemption from photo capture during check-in?
If set to Yes, visitors using the check-in kiosk application will have access to request a photo-exempt check-in before a camera is loaded.
- Select Yes to enable an option for visitors to request a photo-exempt option and check in with the operator manually
- Select No if you don't want to enable a photo-exempt option
Note: If enabled, visitors who request a photo-exempt check-in must complete their check-in process with an operator manually.
Photo exempt image
Upload an image to indicate a photo-exempt check-in was performed to print on visitor badges.
Drag or upload an image to print on the badge.
Prevent users from logging into multiple devices?
Prevent users from logging into multiple devices when a user logs into one kiosk application; any other devices they are logged into will log out automatically.
- Select Yes to enforce one active session for each operator user (any previous session will be automatically logged out upon the operator user logging into another device)
- Select No if you do not want operator users to be logged out of other devices (default)
Use an automatic countdown timer for the web-app incident button?
Defaults the Incident button to activate a modal with an automatic 10-second countdown if no action is taken.
- Select Yes to enable the automatic 10-second incident countdown (default)
- Select No to disable the automatic 10-second incident countdown
Application Incident Alert Cancel Seconds
When a user initiates an incident alert from the kiosk application, a countdown begins. This setting determines the number of seconds for the countdown. If the user does not cancel the alert within this timeframe, the system will automatically send the alert.
Note: This setting only applies to the Check-in Kiosk Application.
Device Management Passcode
Set the 4-digit code required to open settings or log out of check-in devices.
Important: You must log out of all devices before updating the passcode. The passcode will not update on logged-in devices.
From the left navigation menu, click System Settings | User Management | Users. For the desired user, click the gear ion and select Edit. In the Device Management Passcode field, type the four-digit passcode. Click the Save button.
A user can change their own passcode from the top navigation menu. Click the Username | Settings. On the User Settings page, click the Check in Settings tab. In the Device Management Passcode field, type the four-digit passcode. Click the Save button.
Enable incident button in check-in kiosks?
If enabled, users with security features enabled will have access to an alert icon on check-in kiosks to activate incidents with one click in the Visitor Aware Check-In Kiosk.
