In this article, you will add the wireless Brother QL-810W badge printer to your WI-FI network. Use the printer for badge printing through your WI-FI network from the Kiosk application, or from the Visitor Aware application.


Configure the WI-FI Settings

Follow the steps in the video with the steps below to complete the process to connect a badge printerto your WI-FI wireless network.


Note: The video covers multiple models and operating systems. The overall process will be the same. 


You will need your:

  1. SSID (case sensitive), typically found on the back of your router, or your network name.
  2. Network key or password (case sensitive).
  3. Administrator rights/permissions. 
  4. Computer or laptop to set up the printer WI-FI connection.
  5. USB cable (that came with the printer).


Note: You can also set up the badge printer with a wireless connection. This set of instructions uses a USB cable connection to set up the printer. 


Steps

  1. To set up the WI-FI connection, connect the Brother printer to a computer or laptop.
  2. Open a browser window and type install.brother in the URL bar. 
  3. Press Enter. When the installer web page opens, download the software for your operating system. 
  4. Navigate to your installation file and double-click it to begin the installation.
  5. Click the Auto Select button.
  6. From the dropdown menu, select your printer model and click the Ok button.
  7. Click on the StartHereMac file. 
  8. In the Connection Type dialog box, click the Wireless Network Connection radio button. 
  9. Click the Next button. 
  10. In the Wireless Device Setup dialog box, click the Yes, I have a USB cable to use for installation radio button.
  11. Click the Next button.
  12. In the Important Notice dialog box, click to place a check in the Checked and Confirmed box, and then click the Next button.
  13. In the Available Wireless Networks dialog box, select your network from the list. 
  14. Click the Next button.
  15. From the Network Key Configuration dialog box, in the Network key field, enter your network key or password and click the Next button. 
  16. In the Wireless Network Settings Confirmation dialog box, click the Next button.



  1. If prompted, disconnect the printer from your computer by removing the USB cable connection, and click the Next button.
  2. Click the name of your printer from the list and click the Next button. 
  3. The QL-810W printer should now display a lit solid blue LED light above the WI-FI symbol, which indicates the connection to the network is successful. Click the Cancel button. 
  4. When the Welcome to the Brother Driver Installer dialog box opens, click the Continue button.
  5. In the Software License Agreement dialog box, click the Continue button.
  6. Click the Agree button to agree to the terms of the software agreement. 
  7. Click the Install button.
  8. If you are prompted to enter your password, In the Password field, type your password and click the Install Software button.
  9. In the Add Printer dialog box, click the Add Printer button. 
  10. Select your printer from the list. 
  11. From the Use dropdown menu, click the Brother QL-810W CUPS driver for full printing capability
  12. Click the Add button.
  13. In the Add Printer dialog box, click the Next button.
  14. In the Brother Support dialog box, to register your printer, click On-line Registration.  Otherwise, click the Next button.
  15. Click the Close button.


Access the Printer on an iPad

  1. Turn off the Brother QL series printer, and then back on. 
  2. Confirm the WI-FI light is lit and solid blue.
  3. Turn back on the WI-FI of the iPad.
  4. Log in to the Check-In Kiosk application. 
  5. Locate the gear icon on the bottom right of the screen. Long-press the gear icon (hold it down for a few seconds). Tap Printer Settings to select it. 
  6. Select the Brother tab.
  7. Select Search Brother Printers. After a few seconds, a dropdown menu should appear with the QL-810W in the list. Select the printer.
  8. To trigger a test print, select the Generate Test Print button. (Optional)
