Visitor Aware customers using Rhombus License Plate Recognition with your LPR-enabled camera systems may request to enable the LPR feature for your Visitor Aware account through your Visitor Aware sales representative. 


This feature provides the following capabilities: 

  • Streamlined integration with Rhombus LPR including location mapping
  • License plate management within Visitor Aware
  • Direct attachment to the Visitor Aware Carline pickup module to automatically queue student pickups
  • Automatic security alerts for flagged or banned visitors on license plate detection


Configuring your Rhombus Connection in Visitor Aware

Once the feature is enabled, log in to Visitor Aware and navigate to the Integrations page (from the left navigation: System Settings | Settings | Integrations). 


  1. Click the Click here link.
  2. From the Rhombus application, click the Add API Key button. A pop-up will appear. 
  3. Populate the name for the key (it can be anything). 
  4. Change the Auth Type to API Token.
  5. Select the Developer Role.
  6. Click the Submit button. 
  7. Copy the API token from the screen.
  8. Enter the API key from Rhombus in the API Key field in Visitor Aware and click the Save button. 


You may also generate a Rhombus API key directly in your Rhombus console at: https://console.rhombussystems.com/settings/api-management/. After generating an API key in Rhombus, enter it in the API Key field and click the Save button. 


Configuring Automatic Carline Pickup

For clients using Carline Pickup, the only additional step is to go to the Automatic Parent Pickup Time dropdown menu and select the time each day to automatically queue student pick-up scans.  


Once enabled, any license plate scanned within +/- 1 hour of the set time associated with a guardian who has student relationships will trigger automatic carline pickup for all of the guardian’s students (except for students with a pending carline pickup).  


There are no additional steps required.


Map Visitor Aware and Rhombus Locations

In the Location/Rhombus Site table you have the ability to map your location to your site as it is listed in Rhombus. 




If your API token is valid, you'll be presented with a list of Visitor Aware locations, side by side with the corresponding Rhombus Site dropdown menu for each of your available Rhombus sites (https://console.rhombussystems.com/locations/).


Simply select the Rhombus site that corresponds to your Visitor Aware location. It will be saved automatically.


Associating License Plates with Visitors and Volunteers

In order to fully utilize this feature, it is important to capture visitor and volunteer license plates.  This may be done in in the following places:

  • Manually:  When viewing a visitor or volunteer profile, simply click in the Profile tab and in the for License Plates field, type one or more license plate numbers.  This field is automatically saved when clicking outside the input.

  • By Import: Imports in Visitor Aware:

    • Volunteers Import: License Plate column
    • Visitors Import:  License Plate column
  • Visitor Self Registration
  • Volunteer Application Forms

  • In People | Visitors | Add Visitor page

Security Alerts for Scanned License Plates

When license plates are present on a banned or flagged profile, any LPR hit for those license plates will trigger an automatic security email with a link to the flagged profile and the license plate that was detected. There is no additional configuration required for this security feature.
