Administrators and teachers use the Dismissal Manager Dashboard to queue students from their assigned dismissal types and complete the daily dismissal process. This article identifies the fields, descriptions, and workflow for the Dismissal Manager page.
It includes the workflow for students in the default "Unassigned" dismissal type (typically at the beginning of the school year). The Unassigned workflow is for administrators who will assist with adding students to their default dismissal types.

Teacher Daily Dismissal Changes
Teachers can change the dismissal type for a student for the current day and add an optional note.
Note: A school admin must make changes for default dismissal types
- From the left navigation panel, go to Dismissal Manager | View All.
- The student's name could appear on any of the Dismissal tabs. Click a Dismissal tab, then scroll or search for the student's name in the search bar.
- Click the Student’s name. The Edit Dismissal Type for student’s name dialog box appears.
- From the Dismissal Type dropdown menu, select the appropriate dismissal type.
Note: If you selected Bus, a field requiring the bus number appears. Type the bus number.
- (Optional) In the Note field, add a note or reason for the dismissal change.
- Click the OK button.
Unassigned Student Workflow
At the beginning of the school year, students are automatically placed in the Unassigned category. Until a guardian or administrator assigns these types, the students' names remain in the Unassigned category.
Note: Schools and districts typically inform parents or guardians of the Guardian Portal, where they change students’ dismissal types and attendance changes. For more information about the Guardian Portal, see the Using the Guardian Portal PDF and the Guardian Portal FAQ for Parents and Guardians PDF below.
Administrators can change students’ default dismissal types, and teachers can change the current-day dismissal type within Visitor Aware.
- From the left navigation, go to People | Students | View Students.
- Use the Search bar or scroll to locate the student.
- Click the Student ID, First or Last name fields to access the Edit Student page.
- Click the Dismissal Assignment tab.
- Choose the Dismissal Type for each day of the week (Monday-Friday):
- Bus
- Carline
- Parent Pickup
- Walker
- After School Program
- Click the Save button. A confirmation message appears.
- Click the Close button.
After students’ dismissal types are assigned for each school day, they will appear under the corresponding type on the Dismissal Manager page, which defaults to the current day.
