You can create a durable self-service check-in station for outdoor school areas. This setup is appropriate for locations protected from the elements, such as covered entryways, athletic field houses, or portable classroom breezeways.

Caution: This assembly is not appropriate for protection from direct rain or snow, or use in extreme temperatures.

This guide explains how to combine a floor stand, a swivel plate, and a tablet enclosure to build a secure kiosk for your Visitor Aware system.

Required Equipment

To build the kiosk, you will need to purchase the following three components:

Note: Ensure you purchase the floorstand and tablet enclosure for your iPad version.

Cable and Power Management

To function throughout the day, the iPad in your kiosk will need a constant connection to a power source. Planning for your power and data cables is a critical step in the setup process.

Considerations

Please consider the following when you install the floor stand, swivel plate and tablet enclosure.

  • Power Source: Position the kiosk within reach of a weather-protected electrical outlet. For outdoor covered areas, this should ideally be a Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) outlet for maximum safety
  • Cable Routing: The recommended hardware is designed for clean cable management
  • The Vidabox VidaMount Tablet Enclosure includes cutouts that allow you to connect a charging cable to the iPad while it is locked securely in the case
  • The Compulocks Floor Stand features a hollow pole. You can route the iPad's power cord through the top of the enclosure and down the center of the stand, exiting at the base
  • Safety and Appearance: Routing the cable through the stand conceals it from view and, most importantly, prevents a potential tripping hazard for students, staff, and visitors

Steps

Follow these steps to assemble your outdoor check-in kiosk.

  1. To build the Compulocks Floor Stand, follow the manufacturer's instructions on the page listed above.
  2. Secure the Compulocks VESA Swivel Plate Mount to the top of the floor stand. This plate allows the screen to rotate for easy viewing.
  3. Attach the Vidabox VidaMount Tablet Enclosure to the swivel plate.
  4. Place your iPad into the enclosure and lock it.
