The Manage General Security Settings page allows you to configure various security settings for your Visitor Aware system. Use these settings to:
- Enable or disable facial recognition for visitors
- Search national and international watch lists for visitor matches
- Allow visitors to request exemption from photo capture during check-in
You can also configure settings for incident alerts and user logins.
To manage the security settings, follow these steps:
Go to the Manage General Security Settings page. From the left navigation, click System Settings | Security Settings | General. From the Manage General Security Settings page, you can manage the following security settings.

Enable facial recognition for visitors?
- Click the Yes radio button to enable facial recognition
- Click the No radio button to disable facial recognition
If disabled, no biometrics are stored for visitors, and they will need to check in using government-issued identification or a visitor-specific Quick Pass.
Note: Locations in the following states automatically have biometrics disabled: FL, NY, CO.

Enable national sex offender search for visitors?
Searches United States national sex offender registries for visitor matches.
- Click the Yes radio button to enable searching the national sex offender database
- Click the No radio button to disable searching the national sex offender database
Note: If a match is found, visitors are not allowed entry without staff explicitly removing the watchlist block, and staff are alerted immediately.
National sex offender visitor screening interval:
This interval only applies to the national sex offender screening and enforces the duration at which a visitor's sex offender screening will be re-run upon check-in.
Use the dropdown menu to select the interval for national sex offender screenings.
Note: All new visitors will be immediately screened upon their first check-in experience.
Enable watchlist search for visitors?
Searches national and international watch lists for visitor matches. If a match is found, visitors are not allowed entry without staff explicitly removing the watchlist block, and staff are alerted immediately.
- Click the Yes radio button to enable the watchlist search for visitors
- Click the No radio button to disable the watchlist search for visitors
Allow visitors to request exemption from photo capture during check-in?
If set to "Yes" visitors using check-in kiosks will have access to request a photo-exempt check-in before Visitor Aware loads a camera. If you select Yes, and a photo is uploaded to the Photo Exempt Image setting, that image will be on printed visitor badges to indicate the visitor’s photo-exempt check-in.
- Click the Yes radio button to enable the photo-exempt check-in option
- Click the No radio button to disable the photo-exempt check-in option
Note: If enabled, visitors who request a photo-exempt check-in must complete their check-in process with school staff manually.
Prevent users from logging into multiple devices?
If "Yes," then operators logging into one check-in device will automatically log out all other devices.
- Click the Yes radio button to enable automatic logout of all other devices
- Click the No radio button to disable automatic logout of all other devices
Use an automatic countdown timer for web-app incident button?
If set to "Yes," when opening the incident modal, the default incident will be automatically activated in 10 seconds if no action is taken.
Enable incident button in check-in kiosks?
If enabled, users with the incident button security feature enabled will have access to an alert icon on check-in kiosks to activate incidents with one click (on the newest version of the Visitor Aware Check-In Kiosk).

If you enabled the "Enable incident button in check-in kiosks" setting, select the number of seconds before an incident alert is activated when activating an alert using the Kiosk Application.
Click the Save button.
