Security Resource Officers, faculty and/or staff can be setup to use Visitor Aware's Guard Mode. By enabling this feature, the user will be able to utilize the check-in kiosk application from their personal mobile device to discreetly screen and check-in visitors.
Enabling Guard Mode
For a user to be able to use Guard Mode on their own personal device, an admin user can activate their access to this feature or users can access their own personal settings to enable this feature. Follow the below steps.
Steps to take as an Admin
1. Access User's Personal Settings:
Under the "System Management" heading within the lefthand column, click on "Users" and then select "All Users". You can search for the desired user's name within the Search field in the top right corner of the chart, or user the filter fields to narrow down your search. Scroll down to the associated user's gear icon as shown below. Click on "Edit this user".
2. Update User's Settings:
Within the "Edit User" screen, you will see 4 tabs listed across the screen: User Details, Permissions, Locations, and Event History. Stay on the "User Details" tab and then click "Yes" to the "Enable security features for this account?" setting. Be sure to click "Save".
Steps to take as a User
1. Access Your Personal User Settings:
Navigate to your personal user settings screen by accessing your user name in the top right of your web admin screen and clicking on "Settings".
2. Update Your Personal User Settings:
Within the "Profile" tab of the User Setting screen, click "Yes" for the "Enable security features for this account?" setting and hit "Save" at the bottom of the screen.
Using Guide Mode:
In order for the user to use Guide Mode, they will need to download the Visitor Aware application to their mobile device. This can be done by accessing the Apple App Store and searching for Visitor Aware or by clicking here to download the application to your device.
Use your Visitor Aware email and password to sign into the application. Now when you select "Check In" and after entering the visitor's destination, the rear facing camera will activate to allow you to take a picture of the visitor. This will allow you to discreetly screen and check visitors into your school location. Please see examples shown below.
This method of checking visitors in will allow the user and/or SRO to discreetly screen the visitor. If the screening comes back positive against the National Sex Offender Registry, national watch lists, or international watch lists a message will be displayed on the user's screen notifying them that there is a concern associated with this particular visitor.
The user would then check their email/SMS for details concerning the flagged visitor if they're enabled to receive security alerts or log into their web admin dashboard. Once in the web admin dashboard, go through the left hand navigation to view the visitor's profile. Click "People", "Banned", and search for that individual.
After clicking on the visitor's profile, you're able to navigate to the "Security Checks" tab and can click into the records "Details" to view more information on the offense if desired.
